Photo 3/365

In honor of my last night in San Francisco before I leave for Italy for 12 days, I present to you (pause for effect) the Golden Gate Bridge and Marina. I had to run to Safeway before I left and couldn't resist leaving my car in the parking lot (even though there are signs saying not to...rebel) to run across the street and grab some shots. The light was too perfect. And yes, this is what is across the street from my Safeway. It's sort of cool, I guess.

There are more on my flickr from this "photo shoot."

Photo 2/365

There are two explanations behind this picture. The first is that I really wanted to try doing a bokeh photo. For those who don't know the term, bokeh is the blurry lights in the background of this photo. The second is that I got home really late from work and there wasn't anything interesting in my apartment to take a picture of (and I didn't feel like going outside) so I manufactured a little something by digging through the closet, finding my Christmas lights and draping them around my bookcase. I can't really decide if I like it or not, but at least now I know how to do bokeh.

And yes, that is the frame that hangs on the door in "Friends"...in case you were wondering.

Photo 1/365

I'm challenging myself to take and upload one picture each day for the next year. Here's the first one. It's finally nice outside after about two weeks straight of rain and I just got these shoes for my trip to Italy (I leave on Friday). The only logical next step was to put them on, teeter on the edge of my pool, wait for the perfect purple flower to float into the frame, try not to fall in and shoot. The lighting is a little harsh, but that's what you get for shooting in the middle of the day in Spring. Hopefully by March 29, 2012 we'll see some vast improvements. Right?

My Favorite

This is my favorite picture in the whole, wide world. It's of my Grandma Blackwell when she was in college. My grandparents say that it was on the front page of the local newspaper. Isn't she pretty?

Photo Shoot in the Park

My friend Kate wanted some pictures done for her own blog (http://all-things-kate.blogspot.com) so we ventured out to Fort Mason for an afternoon photo shoot. There was a lot of giggling as we tried to get a few "dramatic, pondering life" shots mixed into the bunch, but they turned out great! I think the giggling helped!

New School Meets Old School

This was one of my favorite pictures from my India trip in 2008. Only one problem with it (well...one huge problem), I had no idea what the aperture or shutter did so I simply set it on "dummy mode" as my boyfriend so lovingly called it and started clicking away. This picture would have greatly benefitted from a wider aperture. I decided to play around with it on photoshop to make the subject pop a little bit more.

Blast from the Past

New goal: I'm trying to become a photoshop expert. And hey, guess what? The internet is almost as helpful as (and a lot cheaper than) a class! I learned how to do this vintage-y old-time-y look on a site called http://photo.tutsplus.com. It has a lot of really nifty tips for taking photos and post-processing them.

Breakfast

Good old Target bowls and mugs. I'm thinking of doing a Photo365 Project. We'll see if that happens.

Here's the thing...

My Twitter seems to have become completely sports dominated. Which is fine. I love my teams and I love talking about them with others. Only problem is that's not my only interest. Therefore, I'm going to try to keep this blog open to posts about anything and everything I want to talk about.

I have always been interested in photography, but lately that interest has turned into an obsession! Not the "hiding in a bedroom closet" type of obsession. Just the "I can't stop reading about it" type. I have a flickr account but I'm also hoping to use this to post some of the greatest hits. Hopefully we see some progression over time!

Ummm....whoops
